GetStorageSpace is an online marketplace that connects customers with self-storage operators. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data in compliance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Quebec's Act Respecting the Protection of Personal Information in the Private Sector (Law 25), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the UK GDPR.

2. Data We Collect

• Storage requests: Postcode or city, unit size preference, move-in date, duration, budget, email address, and phone number (optional)
• Operator accounts: Facility name, email address, password (hashed), country
• Payment data: Processed securely by Stripe. We do not store card numbers, CVVs, or full payment details on our servers
• Usage data: Pages visited, browser type, IP address (for geo-detection), language preference
• Cookies: Language preference (gss_lang), country detection (gss_country), currency preference (gss_currency)

3. How We Use Your Data

• Matching: To connect customers with relevant storage operators in their area
• Communication: To notify customers of quotes and notify operators of requests
• Payments: To process reservation deposits via Stripe
• Service improvement: To analyse usage patterns and improve our platform

4. Data Sharing

We share your data only in these circumstances:

• With operators: Customer contact details (email, phone) are shared with the selected operator only after a booking deposit is confirmed. Until then, all requests are anonymised
• Stripe: Payment information is processed by Stripe under their own privacy policy
• Legal obligations: If required by law, regulation, or court order

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as necessary to provide our services. Storage requests are kept for 12 months after expiry. Operator accounts are retained until deletion is requested. Payment records are retained as required by financial regulations.

6. Your Rights

Under applicable privacy legislation, you have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data
• Erasure: Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
• Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format

7. Cookies
